Multimedia collage

Mixing medias and textures allows me freedom and flexibility in artistic expression.

"Kaleidoscope eye"

A project that is inspired by my personal artistic flair: contrasting organic and inorganic shapes / humanity and the natural world. Here, I compare veins beneath the mountain to bodily veins, illustrating controversy of harvesting coal and diamond from the earth. I also created eyelashes as tree branches to continue this comparison. Furthermore, I placed clouds in the sky as diamonds, commenting on the shallow notion that some people see wealth as the sole definer of success, rather than by more meaningful items. The piece is also inspired by my favorite Beatles' song: "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." Materials used: Canon DSLR, Illustrator, Photoshop, India ink, acrylic paint, colored pencil, micron pen. 9" x 24".

I seek to describe the complex relationship between humanity and nature, as well as the intricacy of human life. I draw on the idea that within both the psyche and our Earth, there are multiple dimensions and variations to personalities, forms, and situations. Through the use of many layers, shapes, and color, I am able to compare, contrast, and combine abstract and realistic ideas; geometric and organic forms. I attempt to convey the excitement, sorrow, wonder, and truth that come with every breath of life. Our actions and thoughts affect not only ourselves, but also the entirety of the environment that surrounds us. Thus, I believe that we are all connected to ourselves, to each other, and to the natural world. Through my work, I hope to push people to view all three of these aspects with a rich, faceted, and meditative perspective.

A collage and journaling endeavor depicting a personal journey of building mental strength and mindfulness. It is impossible to lose an entity that is comprised of what I myself have FOUND - I am me." - Claire Kelsey. Materials used: pages from Runner's World magazine, sharpie, pen, rubber cement, flower petals, BIC lighter. 9" x 12".
